Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries in India

Overview

The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (DADF) is a department of the Government of India responsible for matters relating to livestock production, preservation, protection from diseases, improvement of stocks, and dairy development in the country. It is one of the departments of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

Responsibilities

The DADF is responsible for the following:

• Formulation and implementation of policies and programs related to livestock production, dairying, and fisheries.
• Development and implementation of disease control programs for livestock.
• Improvement of livestock breeds and genetic resources.
• Promotion of dairy development and milk production.
• Development and regulation of fisheries.

History

The DADF was created in 2019 by merging the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (AHD) and the Department of Fisheries. The AHD was established in 1947, while the Department of Fisheries was established in 1949.

Structure

The DADF is headed by the Secretary of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries. The department is divided into four divisions:

• Fisheries Division
• Administration Division
